11/08: Adam and Jessica - September 2009

Category: Weddings | Posted by: Apt46
I was introduced to Jessica by her awesome sister Melissa, who works part time as an intern in our Menlo Park interior design office. The theme of the wedding was low-key organic style. It also had to be budget conscious. With only two weeks to figure it all out I was nervous, but I was completely honored to be asked. The bride had her heart set on using some pretty big galvanized tubs for the flowers and I had a slight panic attack trying to figure out how to fill them with beautiful blooms and still stay within our budget. In the end, all 13 buckets were bursting with farm fresh, organic, and colorful blooms that complimented the bridge's orange and blue color scheme.

For the bridal bouquet I double wrapped the flowers in orange and blue ribbon and did the groom's boutinnere in a blue silk wrap with the groomsmen sporting orange wrapped buds.

Thank God the car I was renting had just enough room to fit every single tub as the flowers had to be delivered to Fremont, to the beautiful Ardenwood Historic Farm. Over the freeway and across the bridge they went and when I arrived at the reception site, a really pretty outdoor garden, the crew doing the set up was shocked that such large displays would actually be centerpieces! Ah well, I heard from Melissa that the guests were so thrilled with them that they asked if they would be auctioned off! In the end, the bride didn't even get one so, I feel like my work there was done. :)

I have only a few pictures but when I get the ones taken by the wedding photographer, I will post them! Click Read More to see the tubs.

All my best,
M

05/28: Valeria and Angela - May 2009

Category: Weddings | Posted by: Apt46
Valeria and Angela were registered as domestic partners in San Francisco on May 28, 2009. To celebrate, they held a reception at their beautiful home in San Leandro. Valeria wanted the flowers to be bright, cheerful, wild and spontaneous and chose galvanized steel containers that would add to the fresh-from-the-field vibe. I hung a galvanized container on the front door to welcome guests and built a massive mantle piece that incorporated all of the colors and choices the couple had asked for in one huge, vibrant, array. The flowers included coral peonies, chocolate cosmos, gerbera daisies, heuchera, stock, pompoms, salvia, amaranthus, and ranunculus.
I wrapped the mantle piece and the galvanized buckets in burlap garland to give it a more earthy, organic, feel. We scattered small bouquets in stamped silver cups from India all around the house and filled vintage vases with yellow ranunculus for the bathroom.

When I first put the arrangement on the mantle Valeria said, "I imagined something so different." With a wide smile she added,"It's so amazing! You blew me away!" and she proceeded to take a ton of pictures, and then sit on the couch to admire it. I was thrilled. When designing arrangements I want them to be better than the couple could have envisioned.

I am always so excited to be included in special events and it is an honor to provide beauty and warmth through flowers. Being invited to someone's home to help add to their day underscores why I do what I do. I have the best clients in the world and I am truly blessed!

05/12: Wendy and Sheldon - December 2008

Category: Weddings | Posted by: Apt46
I have created a new category on my blog site specifically for wedding flowers. I hope you enjoy it!

Wendy and Sheldon were married on Dec 31, 2008 in Half Moon Bay on a cliff overlooking the ocean.

As an homage to Wendy's Taiwanese heritage, I incorporated Asian peonies. To reflect her personality, style and spirit, I used the brightest, boldest and bravest color I could find - hot pink - and wrapped it in a deep burgundy silk Offray ribbon. The bride, wearing a stunning column dress accented her look with a Gardenia in her hair. I made boutinneres for the groom, the bride's father, and the groom's father as well as corsages for the bride and groom's mothers. I made varying sizes of pink and white arrangements to be scattered around the beautiful old railroad station house where they held an intimate reception dinner.

05/12: Jamie and Chris - October 2008

Category: Weddings | Posted by: Apt46
Jamie and Chris were married on a bluff in Redwood City overlooking the beautiful Crystal Springs golf course on October 2, 2008.

For her bouquet I used antique blue and purple Hydrangeas, black Calla Lilies and Chocolate Cosmos as her anchor flowers. I wrapped the stems in a sumptuous sea green woven silk Offray ribbon. Jasmine branches by the boatload were draped along the fence and archway and accented with two symbolic butterflies where the bride and groom stood for the ceremony. A custom-made green basket festooned with ribbon and butterflies and was filled with dried Hydrangea petals for her flower girl to scatter down the white walkway. I did a Gardenia corsage for the groom's mother and boutinneres for her groom, the best man, and the groom's father. Smaller, complimentary bouquets were made for her two attendants and wrapped with satin grey ribbon. I also provided beautiful Gardenia blossoms for Jamie and her attendant's hair.

07/03: It's Wedding Season!

Category: Weddings | Posted by: Apt46
Although I am always saying that I am not a florist, I enjoy providing special occasion flowers and creating something beautiful. I was extremely honored to be asked to put together something very small and meaningful for a couple that is getting married today in San Francisco. A friend of the two grooms stopped in to see if I could do two boutonnieres and baby bouquets short notice so she could make their day more special. I was thrilled to be asked. The only direction I was given was to do something different and to use my judgment. Knowing that symbolism was an important part of these flowers, I chose to go very simple but to use uncommon flowers that would be memorable for the grooms and their two young daughters.

I hand selected a gorgeous Echeveria that had produced two very striking blooms with the intent of incorporating the succulents into the boutonnieres. I loved that both came from the same plant and that the plant would live on long after the special day had ended. Having never tried to work succulents into such an arrangement, there were more than a few outbursts of Tourette's that occurred but in the end, it was wonderful to be challenged to create something that would be given with love for such a momentous day!

I incorporated mini Calla Lilies, Chocolate Cosmos, Grape Hyacinth and Veronica into baby bouquets hand tied with gossamer grey ribbon for the girls. I used Echeveria, Grape Hyacinth and Chocolate Cosmos for the two grooms.

I am always willing to work with folks on designing unique and interesting arrangements, and I love it when the final product comes together in such a great way!

We will be open half day this Friday. Have a wonderful Fourth of July!
